The massive floods and consequent inundation in North India have caused an unprecedented loss of lives and damage to property that are yet to be comprehended. Although the rescue operations are still being carried out by the Indian Army and the Indian Air force, this undertaking has become the single largest civilian rescue operation in the history of Independent India.
Even very conservative estimates have put the damages at more than 3000 dead, close to 5000 houses being washed away, about 150 bridges as heavily damaged and a vast distance of roads as completely destroyed with several thousands of people still stranded in hostile places with no access to the basic amenities of life and beyond the rescue efforts.
We at Sathiyam Evangel Trust, have been trying to assess the damage in the most affected areas. This exercise has been hampered by very limited means of transport and with denial of permissions to the Media and NGO personnel by the Government and the armed forces in rescue operations. Even the Prime Minister of India has called for the generous contributions for the survival and re-building of lives afflicted by this calamity. As a humanitarian response to this call, Sathiyam Evangel Trust is in need of generous contributions from those that empathize with fellow human beings struck by the fury of Mother Nature.
We hope to channelize these contributions in providing immediate succor for the natives of the area who have lost homes and livelihood, with special focus on the most fragile sections of the society – Women & Children. We also hope to provide long term relief by providing shelter, launching skill development programs and creating jobs for the wholesome uplift of those affected.
Funds collected by SET has been given to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Documents proofing this will be displayed soon in this page. Thank you for all your contribution.
